The recruiting policy is rather peculiar. The Vanguard is a completely independent cell of the equestrian army. There are offers, and even if we pay attention to most of them, in the end, we have total control on which proposal we accept or not. “Offers” are generally ponies recommended by monarchs, councils, lead institutes and so on at their own discretion. A potential recruit has no idea that it has been recommended nor if we’re interested in their “application”, if it’s the case, we approach them, as I was.
We are a little team, we sometime get help from a few external members and contacts, but of course running our base is not possible with 4 ponies only. I currently have 3 assistants for my research, including EOS, and management of the Overseer, 2 other members take care of the castle and equipment.
We participate in the development of our realm, which means that in fact, Fudge and Nathariel have given multiple expert day/night training sessions but as I know, no one personally. I attend to scientific and magic conferences and Goliath keep an eye on our agricultural status.
[Oh an update :D, yep Techno could totally have been Lilly’s teacher, explaining why she’s into arcane golems and stuff :p]

Nathariel : Captain
Join the army at 16, as a rookie, deny the pegasus training for a earth pony one. Makes a 2 years mandatory formation in the air force, minimum required to be a pegasus captain, as a night flyer.
Multi-role in the team depending of the mission, extrem close combat and blade master ( armor&blade freak… )
Alessio Ingano (Fudge) : 2nd in Command
Special talent : Illusion.
Join the army at 16. Master in mesmerism and sharp shooting. Follow a classic unicorn training then specialise in magic and classic marksmanship and infiltration.
Sniper, infiltration, intelligence and assassination. He uses a prototype weapon called “Hydra” allowing the manipulation of 6 rope&blade connections with the minimum magic flux required.
Full Hammer (Goliath) : Shield
Special talent : Overwhelming strength.
Join the army at 19. Follow a regular earth pony training and then specialise in heavy melee weapons and shields.
Shieldwall when defending a ViP or heavy bruiser in other situations. One hit on a foe is generaly extremly punishing.
Morning Run (Lilly) : Scientist
Special talent : Area control
Join the Vanguard with the commandations of the High Canterlot Magical Institut ( Some months before S1 Ep1 ~ ) to investigate on the “Overseer”. Fudge ensures her combat formation.
Scientist, engineer, medic and against all odds, heavy artillery. Posseses heavy magical abilities and is declared as an Arcane breaker.

I’m really happy with how this turned out. For this image, I interpreted magic looking differently than what is appeared as others. For examples, when you see an object levitated, the entire object would be glowing. How the magic would actually interact with the object is that it’s like a long thread wrapped around the object.
For Eos, since the body is under the influence of an animation spell, I thought that the magic would take the form of an animal. Eos had two tail-like streams that, to me, reminded me of a kitsune, so I gave the magic the form of a fox. The bottom version of the image omits the magic form in case it is more preferable.
Also, the script on the tome is ‘Morning Run’ written in Otherscript.

I love your idea about Eos, I wasn’t sure about it yet, and a cat would have been too classic. Also I’m still looking forward for the Otherscript, thank you for Morning Run’s traduction :)
