Well you don’t HAVE to do it traditionally. But as for my method? Personally I just scrawl over the same thing repetitively, snarl at the page, give up and start a new on a new page, like most of it, hate one individual part, refuse to draw an arm or something that crosses over the part of the body I like, struggle to keep my palm from smudging the page, do so anyways, finally finish the drawing, take a bunch of pictures, post a single picture on the internet. NOTICE EVERYTHING WRONG WITH THE ANATOMY. TOO LATE PEOPLE HAVE REBLOGGED IT.OH NO/ OH NO OH NO
why did you change the art style of the story from regular pones to anthro? don't have a problem with just curious. (and slightly miss it.)
Wew ! I changed so long ago, that wasn’t expected huhu
The reason I switched is not that complicated. What I like the most about pony art is to see how people come up with gestures, moves or item use that are obviously impossible in the first place but still make it believable, I mainly think about Ickle or Baron-Engle, but there are many more :p
However, multiple things went in the way as I progressed. - As a new artist I didn’t want to be restrained to ponies and with anthros I could study basic anatomy while working on my project. - HANDS and face are the most expressive features in a character gesture to me, as I said some artists nail it with ponies but, probably because of my Warcraft influence, hands were always something I missed in my work. - Final part is how I went more and more distant from the show’s scenario ideas over time, lowering my interest in the cartoon but not in the fandom, leading to me creating my own version of the world and timeline (Dark age, Trinity War, events from G1, the “Known World”, etc…)
If your pony isn’t a unicorn, DON’T EVER MAKE THEM USE A SWORD. THAT INCLUDES PEGASUS.
No seriously, unless you have a mouth guard on, DON’T. Do you want your character have broken teeth, broken wings, fractured bones, stretch marks and rough gums?
Mind I suggest using pole swords, long-handled knifes, spears, long handle chinese weapons, maces, warhammers, staves, wing blades, and ANYTHING with long handles instead?
In case people didn’t know, horses/ponies have a gap that has no teeth in it between their front row of teeth and their back molar-ish teeth. That’s usually where the bit goes on a bridle (the face-harness thing that the reins attach to so you can lead/steer the horse). So if your pony is carrying any weapons in their mouth, that’s where it’s going to end up resting.
I forgot about that! (Ironically since I look at horse skeleton systems a lot)
But still, before you do, check if your pony if has enough experience too and safety! Like a mouth guard or not easy to get sick as your pony will be swinging their head a lot!
I still recommend using weapons with long handles because you’re limiting your pony’s movement with only a few ways to attack and often making your pony vulnerable at their backs. Also generally more weaker slashes over time.
I admit though, swords are great for tanky characters.
